Ignore The Comments…

Last week I finished reading a book I was reading on my kindle and started looking at potential new reads. One title in particular caught my eye. It was a biography of a couple known worldwide who had got married a few years ago and the worlds media never seems to get enough of them whether they like it or not. I scrolled down to the reviews to see if it was worth getting. These were some of the reviews i was greeted with…

“Dross of the highest order”

“Dreadful book full of unnecessary detail”

“Badly written self pitying drivel”

“Large pinch of salt needed”

There were many more and these were among the most helpful! This wasnt evn on Twitter/Instagram/Facebook/Snapchat or whatever social media platform of the moment. This was the comments section of Kindle reviews!

Why do people go out of their way to write such hurtful stuff?” I asked myself. I didn’t buy the book btw but I do hope whoever wrote it didn’t go out of their way to read those comments. I think I would need a stiff drink afterwards! I personally suspect (In my humble opinion) that they do so to get noticed. People tend to remember that one negative comment instead of all the compliments they get. People want to be heard, get their moment of fame in someone else’s equation so to speak. Back in the days of life before smartphones and social media, people had to work harder to get their two cents in and be noticed by the object of their affection/ire. Now all you have to do is “slide into their DMs” on whateve social media platform they’re on and if you still don’t get the reaction you feel you deserve, you can voice your rightful anger in their comments section or you can tweet them and if your tweet combines the right level of sarcasm or sass, you could get lucky with your tweet going viral and you can achieve “Instafame”. Fascinating yet scary at the same time.

The worldwide pandemic of 2020 has made people rely on social media platforms more than ever now and perhaps even more careless about what they put out there for the world to see and screenshot. The repercussions of such hateful and hurtful comments can’t be good for the brain health of those on the recieving end which is ever more important in these times which we are constantly encouraged to be kind. My humble advice is don’t put all your business out there along with your personal details because there is almost always someone there who will try to bring you down, NO NUDES(!!!!), and if you haven’t got your settings set to private…IGNORE THE COMMENTS.
