New adventures…

So, it would seem that my job hunting and applying for something new has finally yielded some fruits! On Friday I’ll be taking an induction course for my new role as an online general assistant for a very well-known Store chain. It’s a temporary role initially and I’ll be under probation for the next few months with the possibility of becoming a permanent colleague at the end of the period. I’m also still reading up on their social media guidelines so I won’t be announcing where I’ll be based just yet.

It's been almost three months now since I hung up my wings and the longest period I’ve ever spent continuously at home which has been quite nice I must admit. I haven't spent the time being totally idle, one of my reasons for taking redundancy was to use the opportunity to see what else there was for me to do out in the big wide world while I'm still relatively young enough to find a new career.

I’ve lived in a very fun bubble over the past twenty-three years but I've always been quite curious to see what goes on outside of it. I found out that I was more informed in what was going on in other corners of the world than the one in which I live and I was forever catching up on what was going on with friends and family.

It’s certainly been eye opening. The ongoing saga that is Covid-19 and subsequent lockdowns have meant that the number of people currently looking for new jobs and careers are several times greater than pre pandemic times. I wasn’t sure what I was more offended by at first...the “Thank you for applying for this role but...“  letters or simply being...wait for it... ghosted (Yes, that’s a thing now I’m told) by some companies but I do understand that potential employers are being snowed under with applications at the moment so after being reassured by my friends I’m not taking rejection personally. It’s all good practise and it’s giving me material to write about 😊

I’ve also learned that prior to these pandemic times, it was quite normal for people to move about from job to job roughly every few years gaining experience and new skills as they went along and applied them to their new roles so it turns out that I am an anomaly!

My new role will be a part time one initially which will allow me time to get on with my online studies for now as well and be home. I think what I’m excited about more than anything else at the minute is the fact that I’ll be back home within an hour of leaving and vice versa. Friends, family and former colleagues who have followed my epic commutes in the past know exactly what I’m on about here! So here’s to Friday, wish me luck peeps!
